Hogg Island
Boa constrictor
Hogg Island Boa is an island form of a Central American sub speeches Boa constrictor imperator. It's got a completely different colour, there boas are naturally hypomelanistic, often very light, they've got a greyish pink base colour with orange spots mostly just gently framed with black pattern. The base colour is often blueish or with a rainbow gleam. Bright, pink or orange specimen also appear and are especially appreciated. They are quite undemanding and easy to breed, they just need a slightly higher humidity than continental imperators. Another distinct attribute of these boas is a smaller size, common for most island forms. Hogg islands can grow up to 1,6 – 1,9 metres, but they are mature already at 1,3m males and 1,3m females. That would probably destine them to make a great “career” as pets, unfortunately they often tend to be snappier than most other forms of boas. This sub speeches is most interesting for breeders, it can find its place at both pure speeches and colour variants breeders. For their intense colouring they are used in combination with many other colour variants, the most known and highly valued variant is for example sunset, created by hybridizing salmons and hog islands. (See the gallery) We're only breeding one pair of these beautiful boas. They are animals born in captivity in the year 2002. They were growing quite slowly especially because they annually refused to eat for several months, this period was, luckily, getting shorter with every passing year. It was always in witner and it lasted for four months, than for 3 months and during the last year it only took less then 2 months. No sources are mentioning their seasonality, so we can't confirm whether these were health problems or a normal winter “break”. In the winter 2005 they finally seemed big enough for breeding (female 1,5m and male 1,3m) so we tried to breed them. During November and December we had lowered the night temperatures and it seemed like they were mating al of December and part of January 2006. 7 snakes were born in June 2006! More babies hogg island, hogg island x albino and hogg island x salmon were born in 2007
